Echo & The Zoo

No, not the cool sound you hear when you yell in a canyon...an Echo-cardiogram. CJ was scheduled on the 5th of May to get an echo and to have a follow-up appointment with his Cardiologist. He would NOT get the echo done. This procedure takes almost an hour and he has to lay still the whole time. They put on these bandage type things on his chest and side to hook the machine up to and he flipped!! Like I said, they were like bandages so it isn't like they hurt. He would not calm down, therefore they couldn't' do the test. So, we had to re-schedule for a sedated echo. This was much worse. He couldn't eat anything after midnight and couldn't have any water after I think 6am. His appointment was at 8. Anyway, we woke up early and headed up to SL. Dropped Izzy off at my sister-in-law Kindra's who only lives blocks away from PCMC and headed over to the hospital. We got checked in and then sent to a room where his stats were checked and then they came in to insert an iv into his hand, this is where they were going to insert the many drugs to sedate him. This was far worse then what they were originally trying to do the few days before. I had to hold him on my lap facing me and had to hug him tight while they put in the iv. Let me just say, I KNEW he was a strong boy but oh my goodness, HE IS STRONG!!! He was not liking this at all. He tried to head butt me, he tried to bite my chin...anything that he could do he tried. Well, they finally got the iv in. The first hand didn't work and they had to try the 2nd hand which did work. Once they got the iv in we went into another room. He watched some cartoons and they started giving him the many drugs. It was sad to see him so out like that. He was out of it but not completely. Every once in a while he would try to call for mom...but it was all slurred. He would try to sit up, move anything. He tried so hard to fight it. Once they were done and he started to come to he kept trying to get anything still hooked up to him off. We put him on another bed and wheeled him upstairs to recovery. We were there for about an hour and a half!! Ya, I didn't want to be there that long. And for those of you who know what they charge in recovery, you know why. Anyway, of course as soon as we got down there he fell right to sleep. Once he woke up he was thirsty and wanted something to drink. At first he wanted some juice and then some water. We put some cartoons on for him and he just relaxed for a while. He wanted me to hold him so I picked him up and sat down in the rocking chair with him. He was starting to feel kinda woozy and said he wanted to lay down. So I put him back into the bed and gave him some water. And then he threw up. It wasn't that bad because all it was, was the liquids he had just drank cause he hadn't had anything to eat all morning. And of course they have those buckets for you to throw up in and we had one handy. He continued to lay and watch cartoons and on occasion drink some water. It took some time but he finally started to feel better and was acting more like himself. We finally got to leave. We went to Kindra's to get Izzy. Since we were up in the area we decided to go to the Zoo. CJ was feeling fine by then. And part of the time he rode in the stroller with Izzy so he was ok. This was Izzy's first trip to the Zoo. Her favorite--the Penguins!! She is such a silly girl! They had fun. It was nice. The sun was out but it was nice and breezy, so it wasn't too hot. This was CJ's 3rd trip to the zoo. And of course he had fun. It was definitely a long day!!

Poor thing! Sounds like a very long day. It's never fun to see your kids go through something thats scary for them.

When we took Jordan to Seaworld when he was little the penguins were his favorite.

What an eventful day. I'm glad the throwing up stopped before you got to the zoo. That would have been a nightmare.
